While snuggling under Gramma Linnie's quilts during
those cold Iowa winters long, long ago, I was definitely chomped on
by the quilting bug.
Mom had her weekly sewing circle and
helped my junior high friends and me make and finish a cross-stitch
flowered quilt. We then graduated to a friendship quilt. When Mele,
my oldest daughter, was about to marry Stephen I really took off on
the obsessive quilting path. The journey has led me to make the
most amazing friends and to quilt a few quilts along the way.
After retiring from 32 years with Ma
Bell, Daughter Emelia, husband Trevor and brilliant and beautiful
granddaughter Talulah showed me the wonders of the central coast.
Here in paradise Linda and I became fast friends always laughing
till our sides hurt. Look at us now...In Stitches.
Daily I have to pinch myself to
realize that this is really MY LIFE. |

I had spent many years doing all
kinds of hand work - from cross stitch to needlepoint - when my
daughter, Shannon, suggested it would be fun to learn to quilt. At
first I was a little resistant to cutting up fabric to sew it back
together again but in 1998 I jumped in and took a beginning class
and I was immediately addicted.
I began making everything from
traditional to art quilts for walls, beds, and tables. Nothing was
spared. Like some of you, I have a fabric resource (I refuse to
call it a stash) that I will never use up. I know this is something
that will be with me the rest of my life.
I moved to Cayucos from Southern
California to retire in August of 2005. My husband, John, suggested
I open a quilt store and once I met Debi I knew it could become a
reality. Of course, John now says he was joking at the time but I
have the last laugh - I am having the time of my life.
